Bay City Yacht Club in Bay City, MI will be hosting our March edition of the Winter Wednesday Series, and we have a great one on tap for you all. We have champion sailor and builder, Ron Sherry coming to the club to talk about Ice Boat Racing! If you think sail powered boats don’t go fast, then think again. Ice Boats can really move!
Ron is known around the World in the DN Class with 5 World Championships, 3 European Championships, and 13 North American Championships to his credit! His Composite Concepts company in Detroit, MI supplies much of the class with masts, planks, runners, etc. I love their philosophy on sharing knowledge and technology in the sport with other sailors. As Ron says, “because the faster other sailors are, the faster I will be. Fast is FUN!”
Ron is also an accomplished soft water sailor as well. He’s north of 30 Macks on each side, most of which were as helmsman on the various Equation yachts. He also regularly races in the Thistle, Beneteau 36.7 and Cal 25 classes. I have not raced with my friend Ron, and would like to change that someday, but have lined up against him many times. So, I can personally attest to his skills on the helm. Come join us and hear about sailing year-round regardless of the physical state of the lakes we love!
